NOS Bendix “Hydro-Vac” Power Brake Cylinder Repair Kit (1ea)

I need a Hydrovac rebuild kit for my Scout Car M3A1 (G067) and have been told probably incorrectly that the Chevy unit (G506) is the same?
I also have been told that the GMC unit is different as is the half track and getting correct details in the UK is extremely difficult so can you advise if the 40part kit you have listed is the same as used in my Scout car?

Thank you for the email. I wish you could have asked us this question in the mid 1990's. We happened to have NOS scout car brake boosters back then, but sadly no longer.

I spent some time reviewing the reference materials I have here and I can't find any conclusive evidence that the boosters where shared between the vehicles and were interchangeable. One thing stands out, that to me, would mean that they definitely do not interchange. For one, the scout car didn't use a hydro-vac unit (vacuum & hydraulic), it used a brake booster unit (vacuum only). I believe the Bendix cylinder used on the Chevrolet models were all hydrovac, where some were single cylinder others were dual cylinder. I am not an expert with either of these vehicles, so this is my assumption only.

While an exhausting exercise, you can compare the internal parts of the Kit (shown on the webpage) to your parts manuals on the Scout Car to see if many of the parts interchange. I did see that one of the packing rings did interchange between the kit and the scout car, but I didn't have time to go further than this. I would say a few items will interchange, but I'm not sure you would get your money's worth being able to only use a small number of the items you would be buying in the kit.

If it helps at all, while I was researching, I found an interchange of the Bendix BK-16725 (Scout Car) brake booster with the 1936 civilian White Model 704 and 706 trucks. Who knows, there may be a collector group for these old White trucks that are sitting on new, unused boosters out there somewhere.
